ABSTRACT
Perioral rejuvenation challenges the plastic surgeon and the skin care specialist
to provide procedures, treatments, and programs to revitalize the skin from the damage
of intrinsic aging, dermatoheliosis, or estrogen deficiency in mature women. The popularity
of noninvasive and nonoperative techniques for appearance enhancement speaks to meeting
the needs of the maturing population.[1] Although surgical correction is viewed as the ultimate fix for an aging appearance, patients may not have the time or resources to make that
commitment. For those proceeding with a surgical course, these skin care enhancements
can protect and maintain their investment, may enhance and maximize the longevity
of results as well as increase patient satisfaction. The contemporary and progressive
aesthetic practice offers combination modalities of care to meet the needs of a savvy
and demanding patient population. This article focuses on the contributions of topical
treatments, skin care ingredients, skin care products, and cosmetics that complement
perioral rejuvenation.
